Oct. 7 — The first 28 electrolyzers have been installed at the CNNC Horqin Right Front Banner Wind, Energy Storage, Hydrogen and Ammonia Integrated Demonstration Project in Inner Mongolia, marking a key construction milestone and laying the groundwork for the project’s commissioning.

The project is China National Nuclear Corporation’s (CNNC) first hydrogen-based energy demonstration project. It serves as a pilot initiative and an industrial development platform for the group’s hydrogen-based energy business.
The project uses integrated wind, energy storage and hydrogen control technology to demonstrate flexible hydrogen production powered by variable renewable electricity.
The development includes a 500 MW wind farm and a 50 MW/100 MWh energy storage facility. It will feature 56 atmospheric-pressure, square-format electrolyzers, each with a hydrogen production capacity of 1,000 Nm³/h, along with hydrogen and oxygen gas holders and associated auxiliary facilities.
The project aims to establish an integrated green hydrogen demonstration facility combining high efficiency, intelligent operations and low-carbon performance.
To address complex engineering challenges and a tight construction schedule, the Xing’an League project team has strengthened on-site supervision and implemented daily progress reviews and milestone-based management.
Party-member task forces have worked on the front lines to tackle construction challenges, while construction personnel have focused on safety, quality and schedule management. These efforts have helped ensure that the first batch of electrolyzers was installed efficiently and to the required standards, despite complex work sequences and overlapping construction activities.
The completion of the first electrolyzer installation milestone marks the beginning of an accelerated construction phase as the project advances toward commissioning.
