Welle's Biomass + Green Hydrogen Green Methanol Demonstration Project Enters Operation

Release time : 2026-08-19 Source :Organizing Committee

XUZHOU — On August 16th, Welle Group Co,. Ltd announced that its complete demonstration unit for biomethanol production—utilizing Carbon Capture, Utilization, and Storage (CCUS) coupled with green hydrogen—officially commenced operation in Xuzhou. Third-party testing confirmed that the produced methanol achieved a purity of 99.9%. This unit represents China's first integrated demonstration plant to bring online a commercial pathway combining CO2 purified from biogas with catalytic synthesis using green hydrogen.

The project utilizes agricultural waste, such as straw and livestock manure, as feedstocks to generate biogas via anaerobic digestion. Carbon dioxide CO2 extracted from the biogas is then catalytically synthesized with green hydrogen produced via water electrolysis to yield biomethanol, establishing a complete value chain: Agricultural Waste —— Biogas —— CO2 Capture —— Green Hydrogen Coupling —— High-Purity Methanol.

Hangzhou Energy and Environment Engineering Co., Ltd(HEEE, a Welle Group’s subsidiary), possesses deep technological expertise in anaerobic digestion and biogas purification. By the end of 2025, the company had secured contracts for high-value biogas utilization projects with a total daily processing capacity of approximately 350,000\m3, corresponding to an output of about 250,000 m3/day of bio-natural gas across four operational projects. In the biofuels sector, HEEE has established Used Cooking Oil (UCO) processing facilities and is actively advancing pilot project collaborations in Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF).
