Ordos, China — A biomass-based hydrogen and bio-based materials industrialisation project in Ordos, Inner Mongolia, has received project filing approval, with a total planned investment of RMB 450 million.
Developed by Zhensheng Biotechnology (Inner Mongolia) Co., Ltd., the project will be located in the Dalate Banner Economic Development Zone in Ordos City. Construction will include production workshops, office buildings, warehouses and supporting facilities.
The project will use agricultural and forestry residues and other biomass resources as feedstock. Through a slurry-based processing route, it will produce activated biomass carbon powder, with guaiacol-humic acid multi-nutrient fertiliser generated as a by-product.
Part of the activated biomass carbon powder will undergo blending and carbon-adjustment processes to produce a multi-component biomass slurry. The slurry will then be gasified using entrained-flow gasification technology to produce hydrogen. Bio-ash generated during the process will be further processed into novel humic-acid-based organic-mineral substrates.
Another portion of the activated biomass carbon powder will undergo drying and milling to produce biomass-alloy slurry, which will be used for the production of bio-based composite materials.
Once fully operational, the project is expected to produce 65,000 tonnes of hydrogen annually, along with 300,000 tonnes of biomass-alloy slurry, 30,000 tonnes of novel humic-acid-based organic-mineral substrate and 36,000 tonnes of guaiacol-humic acid multi-nutrient fertiliser.
Construction is scheduled to begin in July 2026 and is expected to be completed in July 2028.
