WUHAN — Driven by policy incentives and clear cost advantages, hydrogen-powered logistics vehicles are experiencing rapid growth in Wuhan. Industry sources recently revealed that the Gexinda Avenue Hydrogen Refueling Station in Dongxihu District is operating near full daily capacity, with daily hydrogen dispensing volume doubling from last year's average of 240 kg to a peak of 480 kg—approaching its maximum design limit of 500 kg per day.

According to a truck driver operating on the Wuhan-to-Changsha freight route, running a 30-tonne diesel heavy-duty truck previously cost approximately RMB 2.7 per kilometer in fuel. After switching to hydrogen, the subsidized fuel price dropped to RMB 25 per kilogram. A 500-kilometer trip requires about 50 kilograms of hydrogen, costing around RMB 1,250 in energy—already lower than the cost of diesel. Furthermore, under highway toll exemption policies for hydrogen vehicles adopted across multiple regions, a single 500-kilometer trip saves over RMB 1,000 in tolls. Based on a monthly mileage of 5,000 kilometers, a single truck can save more than RMB 10,000 in monthly operating costs.

Data shows from January to July this year, total sales volume across 10 hydrogen stations operated by Sinopec's Hubei Petroleum Branch surged 101% year-on-year.
